Soma is in the family of bodywork known as “Structural Integration” whose beginnings sprang from the work of Ida Rolf, well known for creating “Rolfing”. In Soma Neuromuscular Integration we work with fascia. Fascia is the connective tissue that surrounds every muscle, every muscle fiber, every organ, and is continuous throughout the body. Fascia is essentially what gives our body its shape. With stress, injury, overuse, repetitive motions, physical or emotional trauma, this fascial tissue can become dense, sticky, and shortened. This can then lead to the creation of poor posture, or other imbalances in the body. In Soma we work to release these fascial patterns. Soma approaches the body by seeing the whole body and all of its fascial relationships. By addressing all of the fascial relationships in the body, Soma is able to create lasting and permanent changes to the posture.
I like to do long sessions, and take my time to cover all that I can in a session. However if a 90 minute or 2 hour session seems like to much to commit to, let’s start with an hour. You can get a sense of my work, and we can discuss how best to support your wellness goals. An hour session can also be appropriate if you have a targeted area you want to work with.
Somassage (90 minutes - 2 hours)
Somassage is a slow, deep, full-body massage. Its effects are simultaneously energizing and relaxing. Somassage sessions can be experienced on their own, or as “maintenance” after you can completed the Soma series (see description below).
The Soma 11 Session Series (90mins - 2 hours)
The series is for anyone serious about changing their posture and doing a full “upgrade” or “reset” to their body and overall sense of wellness. The series allows each part of the body to be address in a systematic way that allows the sessions to build upon each other to create the deepest and most long lasting changes. Because how we feel in our bodies is intricately connected to how we feel about ourselves and our lives, clients report not only a relief from chronic pain and more ease, but also greater vitality and increased openness.
